In this day and age, it’s easy for just about everybody to set up a family recording studio with just a few bits of equipment. Providing you have a running computer, some type of instrument, and a MIDI controller you can rock out. Here are the steps to connecting an M-Audio MIDI to your PC or Mac so you can create and record music.
You’ll have to attach an audio interface to your notebook. This is the machine that you’ll plug your instruments into. You can buy one of these online or at a music or electronics outlet. Even Craigslist should have some.
Attach your M-Audio MIDI keyboard or other gadget to the computer audio interface. Just check it’s tied to the right port or it won’t work.
After that, link your instruments to the interface. You’ll most likely see something that says “Input” or “Audio In” over the port for the instruments.
Hook up your speakers using the output ports on the device. These can be any type of speakers they don’t have to be bulky.
If you’re going to record your guitar with the MIDI, you’ll have to go along with a few steps to ensure everything is set up suitably. Here’s how to get set up for recording:
Plug in an instrument cord to your guitar, and subsequently plug in the other end to the keyboard’s interface board
Open up your audio recording program whatever it is-and get going on recording a track. Now, you should be able to pick up the sound of the guitar coming through on the MIDI
Basically hit the record button on your computer and commence playing
Use the MIDI to append other instrumental sounds if needed
Then you should be set to rock out. Ensure your sound levels are adjusted properly so you don’t whack your eardrums out! You can use the M-Audio MIDI keyboard to transfer notes from the instrument to the pc.
